What we install and repair
Why doors stick, and how we fix them
A door is the most-used moving part in a house, and it shows every bit of movement in the frame. Loose hinge screws, a strike plate that has shifted, swelling from humidity, or a floor that is now thicker than the one the door was hung over are the usual causes. We find which one it is before taking anything off the door.
On older Citrus County homes, many original interior doors are hollow-core slabs bored for older hardware. Replacing them with solid-core doors makes rooms quieter and the house feel more solid. We check the lock backset and hinge spacing so new doors and hardware fit the way they should.
Exterior doors in Florida
Exterior doors are part of how a Florida house resists wind and rain. Exterior doors installed here must carry Florida product approval under the state's product approval rule. The approval specifies how the door is tested and how it has to be anchored. A door that is approved but installed differently from its approval does not perform the way it was tested.
- Confirm the approval. We check the product approval for the door you choose, including its rated wind pressure.
- Prepare the opening. Rotted sills and framing are repaired before the new door goes in.
- Flash and seal. The sill is pan-flashed and the frame sealed so wind-driven rain drains out instead of in.
- Anchor as specified. Fasteners and spacing follow the approval, then the door is adjusted to latch and seal.
Whether a door replacement needs a permit depends on the scope and the address. Under Florida's $7,500 permit exemption, some replacements may qualify, but not structural changes to the opening or work in a flood hazard area. In The Villages, the district ARC manual lists a same-size door replacement as not needing Architectural Review Committee approval, but changing the size of the opening does. See our Villages page.
Trim that matches the house
Many 1980s and 1990s homes in Citrus County still have their original trim profiles, and some are no longer sold. When an exact match is not available, replacing the trim for a whole room or run avoids a visible mismatch at a corner. When new flooring goes in, baseboard is installed afterward so it sits on the finished floor and covers the expansion gap.

Doors and trim: common questions
Do you install interior and exterior doors in Citrus County?
Yes. iFIXED installs interior doors, exterior entry doors, and the casing and trim around them across Citrus County from our base in Citrus Springs.
Should I replace just the door or the whole pre-hung unit?
If the frame is square and sound, a new slab can be hung in the existing frame. If the frame is damaged, out of square, or the opening is changing, a pre-hung door with its own frame is usually the better fit. We check the opening before recommending either.
Why won't my new lock fit my old door?
Usually a backset mismatch. Many older doors were bored for a 2-3/8 inch backset, and some newer hardware is set up for 2-3/4 inches, or the reverse. Most hardware adjusts between the two, but not all. Tell us the hardware you plan to use, and we check it against the door before installing.
Do exterior doors need special approval in Florida?
Yes. Exterior doors installed in Florida must carry Florida product approval for wind and water resistance. We confirm the approval for the door you choose and install it the way the approval specifies.
Can you match my existing baseboard or casing?
Often, but older profiles may no longer be sold. When an exact match is not available, the cleanest result is usually replacing the trim for the whole room or the whole run, so mismatches do not show at a corner or doorway.
My door sticks or will not latch. Is that a quick fix?
Often yes. Loose hinges, a shifted strike plate, or a swollen edge can usually be fixed in a handyman block ($395 half day or $695 full day). A door that sticks all over can mean the frame or the house has moved, which we check first.
Do you install trim after new flooring?
Yes. Baseboard goes in after the floor, so it sits on the finished surface and covers the expansion gap. Doors may also need trimming at the bottom to clear a thicker new floor.
